Step into a world frozen in time, where the rugged beauty of the West River region comes to life through the lens of one man's camera. Frank Cundill's photographs offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of life in South Dakota during the early 20th century. Born the son of a commercial photographer in Iowa, Frank Cundill found himself drawn to the wide-open spaces of the West. Settling near Firesteel in 1911, he embarked on a journey to capture the essence of the homestead and reservation life through his photographs.
